HOSPITALITY: MAIN BOOKING CHANNELS USED BY TRAVELERS

That the travel market is heated, and that it tends to improve in the coming years, is nothing new.

In addition to the local public, foreigners are also choosing the country as a destination. A survey pointed out that 77% of Brazilians who want to travel will take internal tours and 72% intend to visit new places. (Kantar IBOPE Media).

Foreigners are also excited to enjoy summer here. An analysis by Embratur identified that at least 1.28 million foreigners should visit the country by March 2023. At the top of the list are the American tourists, followed by Argentines, Portuguese, French and Chileans.

THE CHOICE FOR BRAZILIAN DESTINATIONS

There are several reasons for this national preference:

- High exchange rate that curbs the choice for international destinations. Projections for 2023 indicate that the dollar will rise further throughout the year.

- More affordable national airline tickets. In December 2022 alone, ANAC recorded almost 7.7 million passengers on domestic flights.

- Possibility of traveling in your own vehicle or bus, sharing the means of transport with other people.

- Pleasant travel experiences in Brazil. During the pandemic, many people traveled internally, this was probably the key turning point for changing traveler behavior.

- Expansion of community-based tourism – a trend in many Brazilian cities that offer immersive experiences in communities, valuing local culture, unknown to the general public.

- Consolidation of gastronomic tourism. More and more Brazilians value the act of eating well, and this is the motivation for many travelers.

- In addition to trips for tourism, the return of events and corporate trips have also revived the segment.

- Even for popular destinations, there are options for all audiences. In the same city or region, you can find luxury spas and resorts and more affordable hostels and campsites.

ACCOMMODATION BOOKING CHANNELS

Speaking of different audiences, you need to know the main customer profiles of your hotel, hostel or inn to deliver increasingly personalized and efficient services and experiences.

For this reason, we brought some data from TRVL Lab to understand how these people book accommodation, what means they use. A survey carried out by Braztoa reveals that, regardless of the consumer's profile, 75% of sales are entirely digital.

LUXURY TRAVELERS

This public profile chooses to make reservations in different ways. The most recurrent ones are:

  • Via travel agencies or consultants (65.96%);
  • Booking directly with suppliers - hotels, resorts, spas, inns, among others (25.53%);
  • At an online travel agency (OTA) (8.51%).

Another interesting fact pointed out in the same survey showed that, in addition to accommodation, this public reserves restaurants, guided tours and exclusive experiences before the trip.

This information is very relevant to hotels and other properties that serve this public, so that, when selling accommodation, other services or experiences are offered to guests. The chance to increase profitability with each sale is high!

LEISURE TRAVELERS

A survey carried out with people over 18 years of age, with an income of more than R$ 2 thousand and who took at least one trip in the last two years, identified that the likely booking channels for the next trip will follow the order:

  • Direct with suppliers
  • Online agencies
  • Travel agencies
  • Physical store
  • Secretary or assistant

Data from TRVL Lab already point to a difference in behavior between these first two audiences. That's why it's so important to know your business profile and be clear about the personas who most identify with your brand, so the strategies will be channeled to the right people. There, the result comes more easily!

 GENERATION Z

Composed of people between the ages of 18 and 25, this generation is the most digital and connected, as it has access to the internet and technologies since childhood.

This characteristic reflects the attitude towards the organization of the trip. As it is done well in advance and based on a lot of research, they consult information from operators and agencies, but tend to book accommodation independently.

“They mainly use travel operators and traditional agencies, as they already receive filtered and objective information. However, this does not prevent them from researching and, above all, buying from other channels.”

BUSINESS TRAVELERS

This public returned to travel a little no more than a year ago and believes that they will travel more frequently for work in 2023.

As noted in the aforementioned audiences, the preference for online research and reservations remains, not least because most processes are carried out by a specific department of the company.

For business trips, accommodation is purchased as follows:

  • By the company's travel sector (24.07%)
  • Directly through the hosting provider (23.66%)
  • Travel agencies (19.96%)
  • Company travel system (17.90%)
  • Assistant or secretary (16.05%)

As seen, there is not much difference in the way of acquiring accommodation, what really matters in 68% of cases of business hotel reservations, is the price.
